Al Pacino Month #3: Danny Collins, Two for the Money

In this movie, Al Pacino plays Danny Collins, an ageing rocker who has just retired from music so that he can be able to connect with his family and also recharge his life. Buttressed and sentimental by an outstanding supporting cast, this movie finds Al Pacino plunging in his 70’s in a rather irresistible energized mode. The performance that Al Pacino gives in this movie highlights why he is considered to be film god among many movie goers and critics. From the start of the movie we are informed that the film has been inspired by real life activities. As the movie begins, Collins heads east to find his son Tom, played by Bobby Canavale, one of Al Pacino’s co-stars in Glengarry Glen Ross.

During his years as a rock star, Danny Collins had abandoned Tom. Tom is now fully grown and happily married with one kid. Tom is a little bit hesitant because he does not want to bring his father back into his life because he has already moved on. Apart from Al Pacino other notable faces in the movie include Jennifer Garner, Annette Bening and Bobby Canavale. Due to an excellent performance in this movie, Al Pacino was nominated for a Golden Globe Award at the 73rd Golden Globe Awards.

The movie received generally positive reviews from movie goers and critics alike. Rotten tomatoes have given the movie a rating of 77 per cent. Another movie powerhouse Metacritic has given the movie a total of 58 per cent out of 100 reviews. Danny Collins was directed by Dan Folgeman while the storyline was written by Dan Folgeman.

Two for the Money

Apart from being a permutation of The Firm, Wall Street and the Devil’s Advocate, Two for the Money not only lacks originality but also the performance of the main characters is way below average. Nonetheless, despite lacking originality, Two for The Money has something that the other movies do not have, Al Pacino. In this movie, Al Pacino’s performance was something to talk about, because from the look of things, he was clearly having lots of fun playing his role. Additionally, irrespective as to whether, this movie was below per; it is still worth renting due to Al Pacino’s performance.

In this movie Brandon (Mathew McConaughey) a football star who after sustaining injuries decides to take a job handicapping games. His performance and success catches the eye of one Walter Abrams played by Al Pacino who is one of the heads of the largest sporting operations in the United States. Under the wing of Walter, Brandon begins to make a tremendous amount of money. Two for the money was directed by D. J. Caruso while the production was done by Guy McElwaine, Jay Cohen and James Robinson.

Two for the Money has a running time of 122 minutes and was released on the 8th of October 2005. Despite the fact that Al Pacino gave his best performance forward, the movie received generally negative reviews and also performed poorly in the box office. Rotten Tomatoes gave the movie a score of 22 per cent only. Furthermore, despite putting forward a budget of $35 Million the movie managed to gross a total of $30 Million.
